Honest Review: Trim Healthy Mama Workins

For my birthday this year, I decided to treat myself to the THM Workin set. This has been something that I've wanted to do for a while, but I wondered if it would be truly worth it. As an avid equestrian, I'm riding anywhere from 2-4 times a week right now, so I wasn't too sure if I truly needed more exercise in my life. Plus, I'm a big believer in 'functional fitness'...I'm not a huge fan of having a set amount of workout time and a set workout routine.

BUT...after seeing all of the posts and the results of the THM Workins being posted in the Facebook groups, my curiosity was piqued. I wanted something gentle that I can fit in 1-2 times a week (Serene & Pearl suggest that workins be done up to 4 times a week, but with the horseback riding, I think my amount is enough for me personally...) that would activate some of the under-used muscles that I have as an equestrian.

Enter in the THM Workins!

My THM Workin Box.

I ordered my set through a Canadian retailer, Healthy Family Foods, which is located in Manitoba. Side note: their customer service is THE BEST and I can't wait to order more THM friendly products through them! The packaging of the box itself was impressive, (way to go THM marketing team) and it includes the following items:

  • Five Steps to Feminine Fit Guide Book

  • 9 Disc Workin DVDS

  • Foundational Moves Poster

  • Light Exercise Band

  • Medium Exercise Band

  • Exercise Resistant Tube with Handles

  • Exercise Doorstop

This kit is your one stop shop in progress towards fitness! I took my time getting into it all. First, I started by thoroughly reading the guide book, and the tips on the inside of the box. I then studied the poster and watched the Introduction DVD. I was really impressed by the time and the care taken by Serene & Pearl to explain the basics of how the Workins function, as well as their purpose. I love that it's developed by women and specifically for women's bodies. It can be done at any stage of life and there are three different levels of intensity for each workout.

Now, I consider myself to be a fairly fit person between horseback riding, hiking, gardening and farming. Let me tell you, the workouts make me sweat! I do the steady fit with some gentle fit modifications for certain moves (mostly for my underused muscles as an equestrian.) These workouts are fun, fast paced (20 minutes max) and for once in my life, I actually genuinely look forward to working out.

The overall verdict: this is worth every penny. 5/5 star review!

The Guide and the DVDs

Some tips for getting started:

  • Read the guide thoroughly first! Trust me on this - it makes ALL the difference

  • Start slow. Watch the Introduction DVD once or twice through to make sure that you have a complete understanding of what you'll be doing

  • Use the poster for quick reference and read the tips on the inside of the box pertaining to the different levels of intensity for the Workins

  • Start slow. Your body will need time to adjust to the movements so don't be afraid to do the gentle fit moves for a while - or to not leave the gentle fit moves at all for some of the exercises! The point is do do the moves securely and correctly.

  • Be prepared to feel like you've worked out. Your core and glutes will be activated by these Workins in such a good way.

  • Have fun! This one is easy to do with Serene & Pearl leading the way! I find myself laughing so much while doing these DVDS.

And most importantly remember: this is about finding your true-to-you balanced feminine fit that honours your unique figure! The most important thing is your mindset - celebrating a balanced and common sense approach to stewarding your body as a temple for the Lord.
