Lessons teach you so much more than just how to ride.

Some of you might know what I mean. Those moments of deep, internal realization. Moments that shift your mindsets and move your character. Moments that make you resilient. Moments that bring tears to your eyes. A revelation of sorts. Maybe you’re remembering a moment like that right now.

Because it’s so much more than just the ride.

Time and time again, I get into my car and drive home from the barn processing the amazing things that are happening. It’s so much more than a simple riding lesson. If you’re listening, you can hear it. And if you can hear it, let it change you.

Today, my lesson was to only compare myself to myself. It’s true, comparison is the thief of joy. And I was allowing my heart to be robbed.

Wow.

You think that you’re “just learning how to ride a horse.” Purely mechanics, logic and timing, right?

Oh, how God must deeply love us in order to teach us about the bigger things in life through something that we do for fun.

Let those moments develop your character, attitudes, mindsets and heart for the better.

Heal. Grow. Use them as a springboard.

Let it pierce through your soul to point to you something so much bigger than just riding well, or winning ribbons.

They are the conduit for so many wonderful things. So the next time that you ride, take the time to see the bigger lesson that you’re being taught. Take it all in. Give it your all - your horse does this for you every single time.

Show up, listen and learn. It’s more than just how to ride a horse. It’s a lifelong lesson, a faith walk if you open your eyes to see.
